Weekly Blog

Today in class Dreier talked about his life when he was obese. He talked about how times have changed at fast food restaurants and new dieting techniques. He said that he and his wife went on weight watchers which I believe is a good way to lose weight except it takes awhile to get in the habit of watching what you eat and counting all the "points". Is becoming obese and social issue or a hereditary disorder because if it is social, you do not think about what you eat because you are busy socializing. With hereditary, you eat what your parents feed you. I know that my parents made me eat everything on my plate before i could leave the table. My step mom makes my step sister do the same thing. With eating everything on your plate your going to want to do that at every meal even when you are full. It is not okay to eat EVERYTHING on your plate! A good way to lose weight is portion control, how can you control your portion size as a kid when you have too much on your plate. I believe that people eat with their eyes.

  1. I agree when i say that i think someones weight is both a social and a hereditary issue. However, i think that hereditary plays a bigger role. you can have two people who eat the same thing and exercise the same amount but still have different body types due to hereditary and our genes. Our metabolism is hereditary and can play a huge role in the ways that our bodies differ.

  2. Ali I totally see where you are coming from. My mother tried the weight watchers thing and she ended up not succeeding because she hated counting the point haha and she just loves food. I also think it could be hereditary, you see these families and even when they are five years old they are bigger and they cant help it. I also think social is a huge role also. before i dated pat I almost never went out to eat know i almost go out every night to eat with him lol. but i think this topic is really interesting and your view point also

  3. Yeah eating everything on your plate is definitely not a good idea, because then you get in the habit of eating food just because it's there. Like Drier said, the human race used to eat to stay alive. Now, we eat because there is food available and it tastes good. And it's so true that Americans are social eaters more than anything.
